According to chairman of the Consumer Credit Counselling Service, home ownership should come with a “health warning” as some homeowners are left in debt desperate to sell their house fast.
Sell house fast schemes cater to those homeowners who find themselves in a financial black hole. A mortgage can represent a long-term investment in your future and financial security. But as the recent recession has taught us, it can also be a threat to your financial health and emotional well being. The rise of sell house fast schemes illustrates the problem as more struggling homeowners have to find fast exit routes from debilitating debts.
Homes should come with “Health Warning”
The sell house fast mindset has prompted Malcolm Hurlston, the chairman of the Consumer Credit Counselling Service to suggest all home loans to be sold with a “health warning”. He believes that only those first time buyers who have studied and sat an exam should be allowed to enter into home ownership. It may risk sounding patronising to say that first time buyers should be given vigorous tests before being allowed to buy, but he believed home ownership had become a trap for many. He said mortgages should be sold “like driving licences” after studying the subject and proving financial awareness. These licences or ‘home ownership certificates’ should be supervised by the Financial Services Authority. Sell house fast schemes cater primarily to those who are in debt. Mr Hulrston said those people in debt tended to be those who wrongly embarked on home ownership before they were financially ready. He added in his speech to members of the credit industry, “First-time mortgages should be sold not with pretty ribbons and tax breaks but with health warnings.”
Debt Pain Continues
Figures show a huge increase in numbers of people contacting the CCCS for help with debt in the first quarter of 2010. 93,000 called for help – an increase of 23,568 for the same period last year. The increase suggests the UK economy is far from recovered with many homeowners still needing to seek out sell house fast schemes to stop repossession. In a press release the external affairs director of the CCCS, Delroy Corinaldi, said: “The UK’s personal debt pain continues, and this is even before the imminent public spending cuts, so it is crucial that those who find themselves in this situation have access to free, impartial and independent advice.”
